Best space strategy ever. Someone should update the graphics, but with the same style of play. JakLegendd 1 point Mac version. I when I was 14, my mom gave me a book. She thought it was another fantasy book I'd like to read. It was the manual for this game. Although it wasn't a book of entertainment, I read that huge manual front to back.

It was the most fascinating game I had ever seen. I spent days trying to come up with the best custom race to make. I don't have a mac, nor plan on ever getting one, but I'm damn sure gonna figure out how to run it on my computer. Disappointee 3 points Mac version. Now what a surprise, it doesn't work. It mostly succeeds. As you begin a game Of MOO2, a couple of things are immediately apparent. First, this is a bigger game. You now have more decisions to make concerning how large your game universe will be. You can even choose at what technology level you wish to enter the game.

However, the most intriguing choice to most gamers will be the ability to custom build your race, choosing the racial advantages and disadvantages you want, rather than sticking with pre-defined races. This is a wonderful improvement over the original, though this does allow stat crunchers to perhaps grab a slight advantage over any of the pre-defined races. Once you get into the game after you've stopped ooo'ing and ah'ing over the new graphics and sound effects you'll find a game that plays remarkably like the original MOO.

You are still in charge of your empire's production, research, and exploration. You still get to design your own fleets and ships, utilizing the newest technologies you've researched or discovered. In fact, you still get to play with all of the features you had in the original!

The only difference you'll find is that there is now more of everything making this a very enjoyable game. They even eliminated the number one complaint about the original MOO, by including multi-player play and once you've trounced the computer players a few times, you'll relish the idea of trouncing your best friends.

The only place the game seems somewhat lacking is in the diplomacy system. In the original MOO, diplomacy and trading were viable strategies for winning. You could, if lucky and skilled, go an entire game with very little combat; building your economic might through trade and expansion, and becoming more and more popular on a galactic level.

Dupmeister View Profile View Posts. I am not a fan of how this patch re-balances combat. I just played my first game after installing it and I am far from impressed. I managed to stave off combat until late in the game, I had a Doomstar with Xetronium armour, heavy armour, reinforced structure and a ton of weaponry, yet even when facing ridiculously under-powered foes class 1 shields, murculite missiles ect. By this I mean that defeat was totally random, in several battles my she got hit by a single volley of missiles and exploded even though I had full amour and structure.

It got worse if I put the battle on auto, many times my ships would self destruct for no reason at all. I have been playing this game for over 20 years and have never experienced this before, I hope they adjust this in later patches, for now I think I will revert to version 1.

I am surprised to hear that this is not an issue with the patch. I have been playing this game for decades and never experienced this randomness. Unless this was a change with version 1.
