Anything wrong there? I assume nothing has to be put in a specific directory because the OP didn't specifically say so. When it says to extract something to "the WUA directory", does that mean an arbitrary directory you make yourself just to help organize the files, or is there an actual WUA directory somewhere that these files are supposed to go in? EXE to install And why do you have to rename it, anyway? Is Windows Update simply completely dead for Windows , now?
It seems this thread has been dormant since November, but I would hope someone before me would touch on that if they discovered that to be the case. Anyway, I hope someone is able to either figure out something I'm doing wrong or determine that it just doesn't work any more. I've never participated in these forums before - I've made my account simply so I can post here and try to get to the bottom of this.
Not sure about the "why rename" but irrelevant. Please report back. I followed it all the way through with a new Windows SP4 install and it worked perfectly. The only thing I did differently was installing Update Rollup 1 version 2 for Windows Service Pack 4 before anything else, although I don't think that will make any difference. In the end it shouldn't matter though That was the ticket!

It's not really a major issue but the topic states "Guide to Installing and Updating Windows " so that's why I'm writing about it.
That's why it's better to prepare an updated source before the actual system installation my personal opinion. Yes, it does also take some time to prepare everything for slipstreaming but once it's ready you can just run HFSLIP and wait until it's finished.

It usually consists of some ambiguous error codes, which after addressed, just has the Windows update page in a refresh loop. However, there IS a solution. With that said, aside from rolling your own solution, wsus offline update 6.
By the way, I was looking for some similar solution for Win9x, but never found one. If someone knows some kind of program that downloads Win9x updates, please let me know. For list of updates after SP4 , try to find some solutions on Microsoft Support. After you've installed all of these it'll work. They're all available on Microsoft's website. But does anyone know a way to save them offline in a way that we can install all of the updates using a script or something?
Wsus Offline doesn't support Windows anymore and the older version skips a few updates. I'm afraid that at one point Micosoft will take down their entire Windows Update website, especialy because XP is going to be dead soon. Windows Update is now available!
